Darlynne’s Story
"When I was eight years old, my mother and I would spend hours in our kitchen carefully crafting and wrapping decedent chocolate confections as gifts for family and friends. Yet even though we knew the secrets to delicious chocolate confections, we still frequented a small, locally-owned chocolate shop, Kaiser’s Candies. The Kaiser’s were chocolate professionals, constantly working to make their store successful but also very happy to help supervise me when school (directly across the street from their store) let out early for half days. From then on there just weren't enough half days in the year. Each time there was a day off, I had the opportunity to do what every eight year old dreams of doing – going behind the candy counter! Their kitchen and workshop wasn’t exactly what I imagined but it was still amazing. I stood in awe of the giant tempering machines and other such equipment but there was one machine that truly amazed me.
The circular chocolate conveyor belt.
The conveyor held various boxes of hand-made chocolates and when turned on, the boxes would travel around the loop making it possible for them to easily select chocolates from each box and create assorted boxed chocolates. I never tired of watching Mrs. Kaiser use that circular conveyor belt or watching her wait on customers. Occasionally, after my homework was done, I would help stock shelves and assist customers. After the Kaiser’s retired and their store closed, we found other locally-owned chocolate shops to frequent, but the Kaiser’s store has always held a special place in my heart. In fact, the first time I saw that circular chocolate conveyor belt in action, I knew that someday I wanted to have one of my own.
Fast forward twenty years.
Well, I don’t have a circular chocolate conveyor belt of my own but I've continued the tradition of making hand-made chocolate confections for family and friends through the years. I’ve even taught others my methods as well as created a few special and unique chocolate confections along the way. Now I’m making this tradition a business, Life’s So Sweet Chocolates. I hope you enjoy eating these chocolates as much as I have enjoyed creating them for you!
